Many climbers have scrambled up the mountains in order to harvest the extremely durable flower because the edelweiss likes to grow in dangerous crevices or on steep slopes. The edelweiss flowers are star-shaped, snow-white and velvety soft on the surface, which has made them a sought-after collector’s item. Therefore, the edelweiss are protected – and for good reason.
We source our alpine edelweiss exclusively from our flower farmer in Northern Italy’s Alps who has cultivated the plants in the alpine environment.
You can buy the Alpine Edelweiss completely safe and legal at Bluechai. The dried flowers are delivered to us by our exclusive Edelweiss farmer directly from the Alps. The fine silvery coat of the flowers is an indicator of the high quality of the flowers. For as soon as Edelweiss grows in a too comfortable environment, it loses the typical fluffy felt and “lustres”.
Boiled in milk and sweetened with honey, an edelweiss flower is supposed to repel the annoying stomach ache. That is how we were told. Alpine edelweiss dried from alpine culture
Our Edelweiss are cultivated organically in the Italian Alps and dried gently under the sun. The edelweiss is a member of the daisy family and grows at altitudes of 2000 meters above sea level. Because it is exposed to strong ultraviolet radiation, it has a high content of antioxidants. It can neutralize free radicals that accelerate the aging process in the human body.
The use of edelweiss as a medicinal plant for digestive and stomach problems has a long tradition. If you boil the flowers and the leaves with water and honey, it helps against an upset stomach and stomach ache.
Flowers and leaves of edelweiss contain a caffeic acid derivative, which is called edelweiss acid. This substance protects the DNA in our body from damage caused by UV rays and free radicals which among other things cause cancer and accelerate aging. This takes advantage of the cosmetics industry and uses edelweiss for sun creams and anti-wrinkle creams!
But wait, the edelweiss can do even more: Particularly impressive is probably also an active ingredient from the roots of edelweiss, the leoligin, which can affect the cholesterol level, which thus lowers the “bad” LDL cholesterol. This means nothing more than preventing atherosclerosis and strokes, as well as a heart attack. There are also scientists who recommend edelweiss teas and tinctures for complaints with the cardiovascular system.
Edelweiss flower, also known as Snow Flower, is a plant of Asian origin that settled in the mountains of Europe and holartic regions of the world. It is a protected plant in several countries including Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, and United States, and has long been known and used as traditional medicine to treat respiratory problems and stomach upsets.
Edelweiss also has cosmetic benefits such as protecting the skin against harmful ultraviolet radiation, and is fully loaded with antioxidant properties which helps in anti-aging.
Edelweiss has important medicinal and cosmetic uses, and is now grown as a cultivated crop in Europe for those purposes. Traditionally, it was used as a tea to treat diarrhea and dysentery, and cooked in milk with honey and butter. It was also used to treat respiratory problems, including tuberculosis. But in the future it is expected that the cosmetic industry will employ edelweiss to neutralize free radicals and prevent the formation of superoxides — compounds associated with the signs of aging such as wrinkles. Due to its bioflavonoid content, the herb also strengthens the walls of capillaries and veins and can be used to treat varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and other vascular problems associated with aging. Has exciting commercial potential.
